Why <details> is Not an Accordion – “HTML really needs <accordion> , <tabs>, <dialog>, <dropdown>, and <tooltip> elements. Not more “low-level primitives” but good ol’ fashioned, difficult-to-get-consensus-on elements”

But <dialog> does exist, and works pretty much how you’d expect. I tentatively agree the other elements could be useful, but I wonder if custom elements (and customized built-in elements) take a lot of the developer steam out of getting a consensus version.

Easier to just make your own dropdown, or import someone else’s, and call it a day. (I guess this has always been possibly to some extent, but web components + modules feels more portable than prior “widget” attempts.)
