Reading List
- “Oh shit” o’the week: Uh-oh. Boffins say most Android apps can slurp your screen – and you wouldn’t even know it – “Over 89 per cent of apps in the Google Play store make use of an API that requests screen capture or recording – and the user is oblivious as it evades the Android permission framework”. Another argument in favour of PWAs.
- “Holy Shit” o’the week: Samsung phones are spontaneously texting users’ photos to random contacts without their permission – “users are speculating that this issue has to do with the push of RCS messaging updates”
- Success story o’the week: European Parliament balks at copyright reform vote
- Unfashionable opinion o’the week: I Don’t Believe in Full-Stack Engineering – “If you’re only hiring full-stack engineers then you should carefully consider why that’s the case and you should have a grasp of what you’re sacrificing”
- Reddit performance update – Reddit’s CSS-in-JS was slowing rendering; they’re moving to “more traditional” styling (CSS?) and have decreased component mount time by 30%. Sounds like a job for Stylable.
- CSS Grid Level 2: Here Comes Subgrid – by Rachel “Firebush” Andrew
- How I use my social care budget – My chum Jamie Knight, an autistic web developer, writes on “how he uses his social care budget to achieve autonomy and control, allowing him to spend his energy on what matters most to him”
- How I became Leonardo da Vinci on the Blockchain – “Long story short, I convinced them that I painted the Mona Lisa. An excellent situationalist prank. Much avant-garde, so postmodernism” by Terence Eden.
Buy "Calling For The Moon", my debut album of songs I wrote while living in Thailand, India, Turkey. (Only £2, on Bandcamp.)
